How to Book & Pay for a Gorilla Permit
Tourists who want to see gorillas need to first book and purchase gorilla permits. It can be done online through contacting registered tour operators or dealing directly with reservations of Uganda wildlife authority (for Bwindi and Mgahinga Park), Rwanda development Board for Volcanoes National Park and Visit Virunga the official website of Virunga National Park DR Congo.
Booking a gorilla permit online should be done in advance of about 2-3 months especially during the busy peak season December to February and June to September. The reason for this is that tourists should first check if gorilla permits are available for particular dates one wishes to track gorillas.
When your gorilla permits are found available, you can go ahead, book and make payments.
The operator you will be dealing with will send their accounts, invoices and after purchase a scanned copy of gorilla permit is sent back to you. A gorilla permit gives you guarantee to get up close and personal with mountain gorillas.
Tourists are requested to scan and email copies of their passport details for registration with the park where you want to visit to see gorillas. With tour operators, everything you need can be done on your behalf such as paying for your permits, booking accommodation and other activities for your gorilla safari. The operator you book a gorilla safari with will not charge extra money for processing your gorilla permit.
In Uganda, gorilla trekking is done in Bwindi rainforest or Mgahinga gorilla national park. Bwindi has four gorilla tracking centers of Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo so make sure your permit and accommodation is booked for in the same region.
