A 5 days safari lets you enjoy active volcano hiking and see mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The tour takes you to virunga national park, a UNESCO world heritage home to mountain gorillas and several critically endangered animals like okapi.
What is included?
Day 1: transfer Kigali to virunga national park
Your guide will pick you up from Kigali and transfer to virunga national park eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Lunch en route will served in Goma city after crossing the border at Gisenyi and continue to your lodge. You may have dinner and overnight at Mikeno lodge/ Caritas Hotel/ Bukima tented camp
Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Virunga national park
Gorilla tracking starts at 07:30am in the morning. Breakfast will be served earlier so that you will be on time at visitor center. Guides will brief on gorilla rules and take you to the forest where you have 1 hour encounter with gorillas. Return to your for lunch and the rest of the evening is free.
Day 3: Start Nyiragongo hiking
After breakfast, head to kibati visitor station and meet your guides and make all preparations for hiking and overnight camping. You will go on 6 hours hike to reach the crater bandas where you will sleep and get close to active Lava Lake and see fire and gases being emitted.
Day 4: Descend and transfer to Lake Kivu
Early morning after breakfast, you descend the volcano which is still interesting as its morning time. Your guide will be waiting for you at kibati. If you left luggage at the hotel, you will pick it up and transfer to Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Paradise Malahide/ Lake Kivu Serena hotel
Day 5: boat cruise and transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, you will go on a boat cruise exploring islands of Lake Kivu such as Nyamirundi island known for coffee tasting experiences. retreat back from the lake and transfer back to Kigali which brings your safari to an end.
