3 Days Rwanda wildlife tour to Akagera national park, akagera wildlife tourthe country’s only savannah national park which gives tourists the best chance to see big five animals that Rwanda has to offer on top of the gorillas. Managed by African parks, Akagera’s wildlife has been restored including lions and black rhinos which make this 3 wildlife safari in this park very rewarding. Other animals found in this park include elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelope species like topi, waterbucks, and impala and over 500 species of birds.

Akagera’s wildlife stems from its diverse habitats which include open savannah grasslands, large wetland, woodland forests, rivers and several lakes such as Ihema the largest lake. This 3 days tour is suitable for wildlife lovers and nature photographers who want to get wildlife shots.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera national park and boat cruise in the afternoon
You depart Kigali at 07am in the morning and drive for about 3 hours to Akagera national park. You will reach at noon, check in your room and have lunch. In the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema searching for hippos, crocodiles, water birds and antelopes that live in swamps such as Sitatunga and waterbucks. Return for dinner and overnight at your lodge. Accommodation: Ruzizi tented camp (luxury)/ Akagera game lodge (mid-range).

Day 2: Day and night game drives
The whole day is dedicated to game viewing from early morning until after dark. You will be exploring different habitats such on riverine and woodland forests, open savannah, near the swamps to maximize chances of spotting big five and other mammals. You will have lunch in the bush and your game viewing continues till dark when you search for nocturnal animals like leopard, hyena, and mongoose. Return to your lodge late night with stargazing en route.

Day 3: Game drive and transfer back to Kigali city
After breakfast, you will embark on your journey back to Kigali. on the way you will stop in Nyakarambi village to learn about how locals use cow dung to make paintings known as Imigongo. You will get back to Kigali in the afternoon. You may visit genocide memorials and local markets Nyamishambo. You will be transferred to your place of stay or to the airport.
